Coca Cola 600 Race Week – Charlotte, NC – Friday
It’s On!
Coke 600 weekend is Charlotte is upon us. What a glorious thing!
Racing starts tomorrow with the Nationwide Tech-Net Auto Service 300 (an unpaid sponsor plug!) beginning at 2pm. This one’s up on the big show over at ABC. A little surprising, considering ABC has, shall we say, other big racing commitments this weekend. But, hey, more is better.
In this case, “more” race week updates from Charlotte is better than my prattling on.

It’s Almost Time: Indy 500
We’re winding down the best race week in motorsports, and winding up the fun in Indy and Charlotte (and Turkey). The energy is getting more and more amped. Engines fired in anger on Sunday.
This year’s Indy 500 feels like a turning point. Whether it’s new IndyCar CEO Randy Barnard’s shake-em-up spirit, or an engagingly competitive field, it’s feeling like fun at Indy, again.
Yet, it’s always historical at Indy. Check out Lori Lovely’s fantastic Indy 500 Preview article.
Among IndyCar’s real concerns has to be its image and branding. New series title sponsor IZOD is doing its best to jump into the action. Yahoo’s Nick Bromberg relates his experience with IZOD’s promotion of Indy cars and drivers.
The big question: How’s the sponsor match? Are IZOD customers race fans? Will they care about the game? And are race fans IZOD customers? Will they shift brands?
Interesting, and I’m sure somebody scoped it all out before they signed the contracts. They did scope it all out, yes?
